I used to really love the grace and fluidity associated with Hong Kong Kung Fu movies. I'm not sure if my tastes have changed or if I've just got more biased toward Thai fighting in my old age, but I really think Tony Jaa's gymnastic-style of muay boran is WAY better visually than it's Kung Fu equivalent.
I still love Jackie, but I think that's more to do with his humor and method. Outside of him though, I can't think of any Kiung Fu dudes I'd prefer watching over Tony Jaa
Another great fight between these two great fighters :)
Here's a recent clip of one of the trainer's from Tiger Muay Thai. A few days ago I mentioned my need for a muay thai style-make over, and how the Tiger trainers were trying to get me to be more of a 'stand up' kind of fighter—less movement, more block/parry, less combos, more power shots etc. Well, here's a good example of that kind of style. I particularly like Berneung's hands, his parrys, power shots and simple combos are great to watch. Come to think of it his kicks are pretty sweet too. And did I mention he's awesome in the grapple?
Jeez, I nearly forgot to mention his opponent, Namsaknoi. He's one of the greatest nak muays of the last decade and has only recently started fighting again. You know you're a Tiger Muay Thai fanboy when Namsaknoi's fighting and you spend most of the time watching the other dude :)
Got this clip via My Muay Thai—Nopstar's got the best muay thai site on the net over there. make sure you check it out.
